Curriculum and exams

The Indian School Sur is an English Medium ,Co- Educational School and is affiliated to CBSE New Delhi.The school fulfils the three language formula keeping English as the medium of Instruction, Hindi as compulsory second language and Arabic as third language. It follows the CBSE syllabus prescribed by the board which prescribes the following subjects.


Language:

1st English

3rd Arabic /Malayalam

IX - X

Scholastic Subjects: Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Science.

Non-Scholastic Subjects : Art Education, Physical and Health Education, Work Experience and Music.

In addition to academic curriculum, the following Co-curricular activities are kept for the children.

Games, Sports, Debates, Dramatics, Elocution, Creative Writing, Quiz, Gardening, Drawing and painting, Scouts and Guides.

The academic year begins in April and ends in March with two breaks ,one in summer and other in winter

Academic year is divided into two terms .

  1. April to August
  2. September to March


EXAMINATION

  1. The promotion of Student from one class to another is determined on the basis of class tests, assessments and other assignments.
  2. No marks will be mentioned on the report cards of students till std IV. Instead a grade indicating the marks obtained will be mentioned. Marks/grade will be mentioned where necessary for classes V and above. The school however will maintain a record of the marks obtained by the students for other purposes
  3. Students who miss any tests /assessment due to medical reasons must produce a medical certificate within two days of the examination .if not the student will be given no marks.
  4. Re- test will not be conducted if a student misses in an examination/test.
  5. The school has been registered with council of CBSE affiliated school in Gulf. IX class students appear in gulf sahodaya board Examination conducted in March every year.

PROMOTION RULES AND PASS PERCENTAGE

L.K.G – STD .IV

Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation : ( CCE )

As per the instructions of the CBSE, our school follows CCE.For classes LKG to IV. The students will be assessed continuously by the progress they make in day-to-day class activities.

STD V - IX

  1. Promotion :
    • should secure 35% or above marks in all the scholastic subjects and 40% or above in aggregate.
    • o should secure minimum 35% marks in the theory and practical separately if the subject involves practical.
    • o should obtain minimum 35% marks in each subjects separately in third term examination as well as in aggregate weightage.
  2. A student will be allowed to appear for a supplementary Examination in any one of the five scholastic subjects ,if he/she secures less than 35% and more than 20% marks in that subject and gets minimum 40% marks in aggregate.
  3. For promotion to the next classes ,the child should have attended minimum of 75% of the total number of working days of his/her class in the school.
  4. Weightage of test/Assignment and Terminal Examination for class V to VII is as follows.
    • Formative Assessment 1 : 10%
    • Formative Assessment 2 : 10%
    • Summative Assessment 1 : 20%
    • Formative Assessment 3 : 10%
    • Formative Assessment 4 : 10%
    • Summative Assessment 2 : 40%
  5. Weightage of test/Assignment and Terminal Examination for class IX and X is as follows.
    • Formative Assessment 1 : 10%
    • Formative Assessment 2 : 10%
    • Summative Assessment 1 : 30%
    • Formative Assessment 3 : 10%
    • Formative Assessment 4 : 10%
    • Summative Assessment 2 : 30%
  6. For general proficiency award , actual marks secured by the students will be taken in to account .A student who remains absent in any terminal exam will not be eligible for general proficiency Award.
  7. A nine - point scale is followed for converting marks in to letter grades for class onwards . The grades are derived from the actual score of the student. The nine grades are awarded after rank ordering all the students in the class. This is done separately for each subject as follows.

  1. Grades clearly indicate the position of a student in the whole class in a subject. Thus a student who has been awarded A-1 in a subject is among the first 1/8th of the passed students of the whole class in the subject.
  2. Students remaining absent in the terminal examination will not be awarded any marks.
  3. Students using or attempting to use unfair means in any test/examination will be awarded zero in the entire test/examination.
  4. Promotion policy for IX

Gulf Sahodya Examination will be held in March .A student should have secured 35% or more marks in each subject and should have obtain 40% or more in aggregate. A student should pass separately in theory and practicals wherever applicable

Class X

Final Examination will be conducted by CBSE in March /April and results will be declared at the end of May or in the beginning of June.

Classes XI/XII

For Class XI, Gulf Board Examination will be held in March. A student should pass separately in theory and practicals wherever applicable

For Class XII,Final Examination will be conducted by CBSE in March /April and results will be declared at the end of May or in the beginning of June.

Open House:

Open House is conducted after each assessment to discuss the progress of the child/children with their parents. The parents can also meet the teachers on all working Thursdays for the same purpose.

School Summer Vacation

The summer vacation of the school is from 31 May 2019 to 27 July 2019. School reopens on 28 July 2019. Wish you all a pleasant and happy holidays.
