Art & Craft Exhibition
The Indian School Sur celebrated its highly anticipated Art & Craft Exhibition “Symphony of Colours” on May 29, 2024, at the prestigious Sur Royal Hall. The event, which ran from 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM, was a resounding success, showcasing the artistic talents of students and fostering cultural exchange between Indian and Omani communities.
The event was graced by the distinguished presence of His Excellency Shri Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, who honored the occasion as the Chief Guest and brought a remarkable sense of prestige and warmth to the gathering. He was accompanied by Mr. Pardeep Kumar, Senior Officer, and First Secretary for Community Welfare. Other esteemed dignitaries included Mr. Mohammad Ameen, Managing Director of Sea Pride LLC, Mr. Ifthikar Ali Khan, Director of Operations at OMIFCO, Mr. Jami Srinivasa Rao, President of the School Management Committee (SMC), Dr. Ramkumar Lakshminarayanan, Convenor SMC, Mrs. Nishreen Basheer, Treasurer SMC, Mr Pradeep Kumar A V member SMC, Adv. Saeed T.P., Member SMC, Mr. Shabeeb Mohammed, Member SMC, Mr. Pramod V. Nair, Member SMC, and other dignitaries.
In his address, Ambassador Shri Amit Narang praised the school for its exemplary organization of the exhibition and its collaboration with Omani and non-Omani schools. He emphasized that students are the pillars of tomorrow’s India, highlighting India’s ascent to becoming the world’s 5th largest economy and its significant achievements in science and technology, including the Chandrayaan mission and the successful G20 summit hosted in India. He also underscored the importance of youth in a nation’s success and urged students to embrace reading, practice yoga, and learn new skills or languages, emphasizing that having these abilities would provide them with greater advantages in the future.
Ambassador Narang’s interaction with the students was a notable highlight, as he engaged with them and answered their queries, fostering a spirit of curiosity and learning. He officially inaugurated the Art & Craft Exhibition, marking the commencement of an evening filled with vibrant cultural displays.
The event began with a warm welcome address by Dr. S. Srinivasan, Principal of Indian School Sur, followed by a captivating invocation dance by the students. One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of a school-level award for excellence in teaching to Mrs. Rema Prasad, recognizing her invaluable services to the community in education. This prestigious award is presented annually by the Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman.
Academic excellence was celebrated with the honoring of Class XII topper Miss Abhinanda R. S. and Class X topper Master Eshant Kumar, along with other subject toppers. Certificates were also awarded to Omani schools that participated in the exhibition, showcasing their impressive exhibits.
In a generous gesture, the Embassy of India donated a collection of books to the library of Indian School Sur, with His Excellency Shri Amit Narang presenting the books to Principal Dr. S. Srinivasan.
The evening continued with an enchanting musical programme featuring a diverse array of performances. Students, parents, and teachers captivated the audience with Bharatnatyam, classical music, various instrumental performances, and thrilling dance acts. Non-Indians also participated, delighting the audience with Malayalam songs, highlighting the inclusive spirit of the event.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Jami Srinivasa Rao, President of the School Management Committee, and left attendees with a memorable and exhilarating experience.
The Art & Craft Exhibition of Indian School Sur not only showcased the artistic and academic prowess of its students but also reinforced the strong cultural and educational ties between India and Oman.
