Onam Celebration 2026

Indian School Sur celebrated Onam with great enthusiasm and festive spirit on 25 August 2026 at the New Multipurpose Hall. The celebration was organised to introduce students to the rich cultural traditions of Kerala and to highlight the values of unity, togetherness, love, and family that are central to the festival of Onam.

The programme commenced with a prayer and pooja, seeking blessings for the school community. This was followed by a speech on Onam, which highlighted the significance of the festival and its rich cultural heritage.

The students presented a melodious rendition of Oonapaattukal, adding a traditional musical touch to the celebration. A Musical Skit – Onam Through the Ages was one of the major attractions of the programme. The skit portrayed the differences between Onam celebrations in earlier times and those of the present day, beautifully highlighting the changing ways of celebrating the festival while emphasising the importance of preserving traditional values. The emotional portrayal of an elderly lady missing her granddaughter added depth to the performance and highlighted the importance of family relationships, love, and cherished memories.

The cultural programme continued with Vallamkali and Pulikkali, bringing the vibrant folk traditions of Kerala to life. The energetic presentation captured the excitement and festive spirit associated with these traditional art forms.

The students also presented Thiruvathira, showcasing grace, rhythm, coordination, and the rich cultural heritage of Kerala. The Athapookkalam, arranged by the teachers on the previous day, added a traditional and colourful touch to the Onam celebrations.

The entire programme was a beautiful combination of prayer, speech, music, drama, traditional folk arts, and cultural performances. The students participated with great enthusiasm and confidence, making the event vibrant and memorable.

The Onam celebration successfully provided an opportunity for students to understand and appreciate Kerala’s cultural heritage while experiencing the joy and spirit of the festival. The programme concluded on a happy note, leaving everyone with wonderful memories of a colourful and meaningful celebration that truly reflected the spirit of Onam—unity, happiness, love, and togetherness.
