A Symphony of Cultures: Oman National Day Celebrations Shine Bright at Indian School Sur

 

Indian School Sur resonated with patriotic fervor and cultural vibrancy as it hosted the grand Oman National Day Celebration on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. The event served as a platform for cross-cultural camaraderie, bringing together distinguished dignitaries, talented students, and a captivated audience. The occasion was graced by Mr. Salem Bin Khadem Bin Rashid Al Hashmi, Director of Planning and Investment, Office of the Governor of South Al Sharqiyah, as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Mohamed Ali Musallam Al Alawi, Section Head, Department of Lands, Ministry of Education Sur, as the Guest of Honour. The eminent guests were warmly welcomed by Mr. Jami Srinivas Rao, President of the School Management Committee, along with Principal Dr. S. Srinivasan and esteemed School Management Committee members, who honored them with bouquets and traditional Omani shawls.

The program began with a warm and eloquent opening address by school head boy Master Amaan Amin, setting the tone for the morning. The cultural performances that followed offered aesthetic delight and manifested a gratifying spectacle to the onlookers. Students from Indian School Sur collaborated with four participating Omani schools – Sur Private School, Shaikh Bil Arab School, Safwan Private School, and Abdurrahman bin Awf School, to deliver enthralling performances that highlighted the enduring friendship between India and Oman. The celebration featured an array of performances that highlighted Oman’s rich heritage and the bond between India and Oman. The audience was inspired by an insightful English speech by Mast. Hammad Khurram and an engaging Arabic speech by Ms. Larein Ahmed Reda. Indian School Sur students performed a soulful group song in Arabic, a testament to their linguistic and cultural engagement.

Dances by Sur Private School, Shaikh Bil Arab School, Safwan Private School, and students from Indian School Sur brought vibrancy and energy to the event. The traditional Omani music show by Abdurrahman bin Awf School was a standout performance, reflecting the country’s rich musical heritage. A presentation on facts about Oman by Indian School Sur students, Ms. Wafa Idris and Ms. Noorjahan Neha, offered a glimpse into the nation’s history and achievements. A quiz on Oman, conducted by Ms. Izzah Ashraf and Ms. Sara Kashif, tested participants’ knowledge about the host country. The program also included news presentations in Arabic and English by Mast. Ahmed Tamer and Mast. Rishab Kumar, showcasing the linguistic versatility of the students Special mention goes to the mesmerizing Music and Art Show by Mr. Dinesh, Art Teacher, and Mr. Unnikrishnan, Music Teacher, which captivated the audience and showcased the artistic talent flourishing in the school.

The ceremony also celebrated academic and creative achievements. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour awarded certificates and prizes to the winners of the Indian School Quiz 2024 and the Science, Technology, and Innovation Exhibition 2024, applauding their ingenuity and excellence. Mast. Aryan Bhatia was presented with the gold medal for securing the first position in the SOF National Cyber Olympiad Examination 2023. Mr. Jami Srinivas Rao, President of the School Management Committee, Principal Dr. S. Srinivasan, and distinguished members of the school management committee, Dr. Ramkumar Lakshmi Narayanan and Mr. Pradeep Kumar A.V. felicitated Chief Guest, Mr. Salem bin Khadem bin Rashid Al Hashmi and Guest of Honour, Mr. Mohamed Ali Musallam Al Alawi for their remarkable contributions to the Indian diaspora and the people of Sur. The event concluded on a gracious note with the Vote of Thanks delivered by school head girl, Ms. Harshita Chaudhury, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the event’s success. This joyous occasion will be remembered as a day of unity, celebration, and the reaffirmation of the bonds between two nations.
