The Indian School Sur was founded in 1989 to serve the educational needs of the expatriate Indian Community. Over the past 32 years the school has grown and spread its wings in opening the sky of education to children belonging to more than twenty different nationalities. From its humble inception with 70 students and 3 teachers in a rented building, the school has touched the stars of success by the recent accruing of higher secondary commerce stream. The school is approved by the Ministry of Education, Oman and is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, India, Affiliation Number 6130009. The school presently houses 1000 students in 35 classrooms with 45 teaching staff and 10 nonteaching staff members. The school is also accoutered with discrete physics, chemistry, biology labs, multipurpose audio room, dance room, counselling room, first aid room, 5 school buses and a bookstore. ISS is an English Medium multicultural coeducational institution working with the supervision of a school management committee under the guidance of the board of Directors for Indian Schools in the Sultanate of Oman. Besides producing conflagrant academic results at the CBSE grade X & XII examination students here are provided with copious opportunities focused on the holistic development of the pupil. We make sure that our students excel in all walks of life by providing a healthy and universally coherent learning atmosphere. ISS with its ardent dutiful crew of stakeholders and faculties is an institution, which is marching along the path of constant upgradation and set in stone progress.
Classes are divided into the following segments.
- Pre-Primary/Kindergarten Section – Lower & Upper Kindergarten
- Primary Section – Classes I, II, III & IV
- Middle Section – Classes V, VI, VII & VIII
- Secondary & Senior Secondary Section – Classes IX, X, XI & XII
The school functions five days a week from Sunday to Thursday.

Organization
The school is managed by a three level organization committees comprising of

Dr. Shivakumar Manickam is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Indian Schools in Oman. Mr. Jami Srinivas Rao is the President of the School Management Committee & Dr. S Srinivasan is the Principal of Indian School Sur. The School Management Committee consists of seven members including the Principal.
School Facilities
- Mobile App – Zoment mobile app was introduced for easy access to parents regarding school related communication.
- CCTV-To ensure maximum safety of our students in the school, updated version of CCTV are installed in the school campus. Few classrooms are equipped with the same for the smooth conduct of CBSE examinations.
- School Website – The school website is being regularly updated with all the relevant information, events and circulars.
- The School Facebook Page– The school Facebook page is comprehensibly functional from November 2019. All academic and non-academic activities are updated in the Facebook page.
- The School YouTube Channel – The school YouTube channel started streaming from June 2020. All the official programmes conducted in the school is broadcasted through the YouTube Channel.
- Digital Library – The Digital Library facility is operational in the school supplementing the students with online material which could be accessed from the comfort of their homes.
The school has the following clubs providing ample opportunities for the students to participate in beyond the classroom activities which will help in honing their skills.
The school hosted CBSE Kho-Kho cluster competition in 2015. ISS has hosted many interschool competitions and programmes organised by the Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman during the pandemic. The following are the events.
- Indian School Film Festival (ISFF) was hosted in February 2020
- Stride was hosted in August 2021
- National Education Day Celebration was hosted in November 2021
The school is providing rented support to Indian School Masirah by providing 50% fee concession to the students to attend online classes, supply of books and visa renewal of the teaching staff during the pandemic. The school is also a mentor to Indian School Jalan.
