34th Annual Day

Indian School Sur celebrated its 34th Annual Day on February 04 2023. Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, HE Amit Narang, was the Chief Guest of the Day. Mrs Ashwani Sawarikar, Finance Director, Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman and Director in charge of Indian School Sur, was the Guest of Honour.

The occasion was graced by the presence of dignitaries Mr Khalid Juma Al Araimi, Head of the innovation and Scientific Olymiad Department MoE, Mr Mohammed Ali Musallam Al Alawi, Section Head of the Department of Land MoE, Mr Mohammed Ameen, President of School Management Committee, Convenor Mr Jami Srinivas Rao, Treasurer Adv. Saeed T P, and Member Mr Pradeep Kumar AV.

Mr Rajesh Kumar Chowhan, principal of Indian School Muscat, Mr Prabhakaran, Principal of ISAM, and Mrs Baby Sheeja, Indian School Jalan, attended the function.

Addressing the audience, HE Amit Narang said that education is a continuous process and that education earns wisdom only if academics are not taken as the end but as a means to progress. He stressed that for the wholesome personality of a student, schools should encourage a balance between academics, cultural and sports activities. He congratulated the Management of Indian School Sur for maintaining these parameters to be of utmost importance and providing excellent facilities and opportunities to its young learners. Ambassador praised India for its illustrious progress in many sectors, from digitalisation to becoming the pharmaceutical hub of the world. India was in the lead for the vaccination drive during the COVID-19 pandemic, becoming the largest vaccinated country in the world. Ambassador reminisced about the cordial relationship between India and Oman in various fields.

Mrs Ashwani Sawarikar highlighted that the progress of a nation is a reflection of the level and quality of its education. She advised the young students that only through hardship can one attain success, quoting how a pupa transforms into a butterfly. She said that Indian School Sur is a school where students excel in all fields, like sports & cultural aspects, apart from academics.

The SMC President, Mr Mohammad Ameen, welcomed the dignitaries and opined that Indian School Sur is one of the best Schools in Oman. The credit for taking it to such a height of success goes to its teachers and students’ relentless and dedicated efforts. He further added that Indian School Sur excelled in all fields of learning and congratulated the school for carving a niche for itself.

Dr S. Srinivasan, Principal, ISS, presented the annual report of the school showcasing the achievements in academics and co-curricular activities for the year 2022– 23. The Annual Report highlighted the prominent features of the school, with a positive outlook for a meaningful year ahead.

The chief guest did the honours of bestowing numerous awards bagged by the students in curricular and co-curricular activities. Master Azain Khalid of class XII received the ‘student of the year’ award.

Miss Shivanya Prashanth of class IV A was given a special memento for her incredible accomplishment in achieving the India book of Records and Asia book of records for completing hula hoop spins around a hair bun using inline skates.

The CBSE Class X and XII toppers, subject toppers, class toppers, Science Olympiad awards, ISFF, Exhibition winners and overall house champion trophies were bestowed to the students.

The annual Day was based on the theme “Confluence”. The students performed an array of mesmerising cultural events displaying perfect synchronisation of music and dance in the form of a medley of world and Indian Dances, thought-provoking skits based on the social issue and an incredible presentation by a group of students in the programme “Defying Gravity” challenging the very existence of natural law of gravitation. The timely gap-fillers were equally entertaining, which confined the audience throughout the programme. The cultural programme was followed by the proposal of a vote of thanks by Mr Jami Srinivas Rao, Convenor, School Management Committee.
